Can't Stick to Habits? Try the Small-Pillar +1 Method and a 9-Dimension Life Radar (JengaLife)
Keywords: habit tracker app, build habits, self discipline, daily goals, life radar chart, JengaLife
"Be more disciplined." "Live a better life." The problem with goals like these is that they are too big and have no action you can take today. So we start, stop, feel guilty and start again. Try the opposite: skip the grand goal and keep a list of small things you can do today.
1. Why small things stick
- Low barrier: calling a parent or reading ten pages takes minutes;
- Instant feedback: tap +1 and see progress right away;
- A gap is not a reset: streaks, a heatmap and totals mean one missed day does not erase the rest.
2. Nine dimensions, so life does not stand on one leg
Most trackers cover exercise and reading. Life has more sides: goals, passions, heart, daily life, learning, family, money, health and skills. Put them on a radar chart and the empty or growing areas are obvious.
3. How JengaLife works
JengaLife: Habit Tracker is built on "pillars":
- 30-second start: pick 3 pillars and log your first +1 immediately;
- 9 dimensions and 90 curated pillars, plus your own, each with a few ways to begin in minutes;
- A 9-D radar, day streaks, a 14-week heatmap and a streak per pillar;
- Three Home Screen widgets: today's pillar, my pillars and the 9-D map;
- On-device reminders: daily nudge, bedtime line and weekly review at times you choose;
- Undo mis-taps, delete entries, export your data (Markdown) and share the radar as an image;
- Everything stays on your phone, no account required.
Version 1.1 added an English interface, a new first-run flow and more accurate reminders.
4. A starter plan
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Pick 3, do only the easiest |
| Week 1 | At least one +1 a day, no more needed |
| Week 2 | Check the radar, feed the emptiest dimension |
| Monthly | Let go of what does not fit, swap in something new |
Takeaway: make "do one small thing" automatic first, and let the radar grow on its own.
